After the sugary goodies of Halloween and before the heavy feasts of Thanksgiving is a perfect time for a little detox! The digestive system is responsible for effectively breaking down the food you consume, metabolizing that food into energy, and eliminating waste.

Be kind to your digestive system and keep it running optimally with this tasty juice! We include a hearty helping of fruits and vegetables that have high fiber and water content to keep you fuller longer. Though this drink is low-calorie, it works to satiate and slow the appetite. Each ingredient is a digestive health powerhouse, packed with beneficial attributes like these:

Fresh ginger: Used as a traditional remedy for stomach discomfort for centuries, fresh ginger is known to relieve intestinal inflammation thanks to compounds called gingerols. This superfood is also a carminative, or a substance that relieves excessive gas.

Lemon juice: Because lemon juice has a similar chemical structure to the body’s natural digestive liquids, this ingredient signals the liver to produce additional bile. Bile equips the body to move food through the digestive tract effectively; the more bile in the body, the less likely a person is to suffer indigestion.

Greek yogurt provides probiotics that increase the good bacteria in the gut, and inhibit bad bacteria from taking over.

Pineapple contains a digestive enzyme called bromelain that reduces inflammation as it passes through the digestive system. Pineapple’s high fiber and water content also prevents constipation and promotes regularity.

Spinach is high in iron, which improves the absorption of pineapple’s Vitamin C content. High content of fiber and water prevents constipation.

Granny Smith apples contain high fiber and beneficial phytonutrients to promote good gut bacteria. Granny Smith apples are a source of malic acid, which works to cleanse the liver.

Kale: This leafy green contains B vitamins and C vitamins, which promote efficient absorption of the iron in spinach.

Honey contains anti-inflammatory properties which may benefit the digestive tract, and mutes the vegetable flavor of the greens in this green juice.

And, of course, the star of this juice: Liver-Chol Plus, which contains fresh Swiss herbs Yellow Gentian and Dandelion to stimulate bile flow and detox the liver and kidneys. We round out this blend with choline, an essential nutrient for metabolism. This powerful blend also contains the herb Lemon Balm to relieve stomach discomfort, regulate gut flora and inhibit yeast. Liver-Chol Plus has a crisp, refreshing taste with notes of lemon and mint.

Prepare this delicious drink in a blender, because the nutrients of spinach and kale can be difficult to extract with a juicer. However, this smoothie will have a thin consistency closer to a juice because its ingredients are high in water content.

2 cups frozen pineapple

1 inch cube of peeled fresh ginger

1 cup baby spinach

2 tbsp lemon juice

1/2 cup yogurt

1 tsp honey

1 green apple, cored (peeling optional)

1 cup kale

4 tsp Liver-Chol Plus

Combine all ingredients in a blender until smooth. Refrigerate or freeze for desired chill level and consistency. Makes 2 servings.

Cheers to good health!
